Gear up for a better TOEFL® Experience

It is good news for all takers of TOEFL®! There are some positive changes in the offering which will make the TOEFL test all the more worthwhile. August will see new changes in the TOEFL® test pattern. TOEFL iBT® test takers will profit from improvements to the test format and score reporting, and easier registration.

To begin with, the test time will condense by 30 minutes. This means the new TOEFL test will only be for three hours. There will be no changes to the kinds of questions and the format at large. It will still be the utmost reliable, fair and affordable test but with fewer questions in the Reading, Listening and Speaking sections.

Apart from this, the new MyBest scores feature will take into account the test takers’ best scores for each section. This will be taken from all official TOEFL iBT® scores from the previous two years. MyBest scores allow test takers to present their overall test performance.  The send their scores to colleges, universities or institutions.

The latter can then make informed decisions regarding admissions. The TOEFL iBT® score reports which are forwarded post-August 01, 2019 regardless of the test administration date, will by default include MyBest scores. This will be along with the traditional scores from the test taker’s particular test date.

As expressed by the Executive Director of the TOEFL Program that today, many institutions feel the need to recognise the significance of seeing applicants’ best section scores.  This is especially when they appear for the standardised test more than once. The competitive test takers need an English-language test that gives them visibility and a chance to be prominent among the admissions officers. The changes that are about to roll in will provide a substantially better testing experience for students.
